Bali, March 9, 2026 — The Director of Politeknik Pariwisata Makassar, along with lecturers from the Culinary Study Program, conducted an industrial visit to a Carnival Cruise Line ship docked in Bali on Monday (March 9). The activity, titled Carnival Cruise Encounter, is part of an effort to strengthen collaboration in student internship placement programs within the international cruise industry.
During the visit, the Poltekpar Makassar delegation had the opportunity to directly observe culinary service operations onboard the cruise ship, which serves thousands of passengers on each voyage. Carnival Cruise Line provided an operational tour covering 10 galleys (production kitchens) and 7 restaurants, each offering diverse food and beverage service concepts.
The delegation was welcomed by Food & Beverage Manager (FBM), Sandeep from India, who presented an overview of food and beverage service standards in the cruise environment, including operational coordination between kitchens, restaurants, and other service units.
The tour continued with Executive Chef Ravi, who guided the group through the ship’s kitchen operations. He explained the culinary team’s organizational structure, task distribution across each galley, and the food production workflow designed to efficiently serve thousands of guests daily.
The Director of Politeknik Pariwisata Makassar stated that the visit provided valuable insights for lecturers, particularly in understanding international hospitality industry standards applied in cruise operations. This experience is expected to enhance teaching quality on campus and serve as a reference in preparing students for internship programs in the cruise industry.
The collaboration between Politeknik Pariwisata Makassar and Carnival Cruise Line has been established through an apprenticeship program for students. The first batch, consisting of six Culinary Arts students, has recently completed the program. Currently, the second batch is in the deployment process, with nine students set to join the internship onboard the cruise ship.
Notably, alumni from the first batch not only gained international work experience but have also received job contract offers as crew members with Carnival Cruise Line. They are scheduled to begin their contracts after completing their final academic process (yudisium) in August 2026.
During the apprenticeship program, students receive various facilities supporting their learning and professional experience. In addition to a competitive allowance, participants are provided with return travel tickets, accommodation, and meals throughout their time onboard.
The success of this program is expected to further strengthen synergy between vocational tourism education and the global industry, while opening broader career opportunities for Poltekpar Makassar students in the international hospitality sector, particularly within the rapidly growing cruise industry.
